Numerical calculations
Well-founded statements on the effects of construction projects on people and the environment are of crucial importance for both public acceptance and the approvability of construction projects. Complex inner-city construction projects for buildings and infrastructure can no longer be carried out without numerical calculations of the building-soil interaction or analyses of the groundwater situation. Important aspects here are deformation predictions, the understanding of failure mechanisms, the dimensioning of geotechnical structures and forensic investigations of cases of damage.
In cooperation with partners and universities, we carry out complex numerical calculations in the fields of geotechnics, tunnel construction and hydrogeology. We use methods based on the finite element method (FEM) or finite difference method (FDM) in 2D and 3D models. We use suitable material laws, including non-linear ones, for the respective application and plan the necessary laboratory tests as early as the ground investigation stage. This enables us to make well-founded statements on deformations, building-soil interaction as well as the groundwater and flow situation. These form the basis for successful risk management based on the measurement programs we design as part of the monitoring method.
